RUBY ROSE x ILLMA GORE “MODERN JOSE” MURAL TOUCHES ON OBJECTIFYING WOMEN

July 17, 2014

In the bustle of Hollywood, me and my longtime friend and artistic collaborator Illma Gore (aka Creepin It Real) have created a mural depicting a twist on 1970s feminist anti-war art. Inspired the  José Gomez and makes the connection between the objectification of women and the violence done against them. After the kidnapping of over 200 girls in Nigeria and the Santa Barbara shootings, we were compelled to create a piece that could bring light to this serious issue.

After the building owners complained about the blood visuals, We decided to not fix the artwork but rather tell the reasoning behind their collaborative work:

"Today we made a revision to our controversial wall. But we didn't give in and paint the lady "pretty like the other one" we explained why their complaints were about the wrong issue"
